Hilly Half Marathon Start Line
Runners and fitness enthusiasts from across the country will descend on Hamilton Island for the annual Stamford Financial Hilly Half Marathon to take on the stunning island terrain on Sunday 6th May.
Now in its sixth year, the Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon is an exhilarating experience with a variety of terrains from marina outlooks, to fire trails and walking tracks up the rugged Passage Peak which rewards competitors with breath taking ocean views of the stunning Coral Sea and surrounding Whitsunday Islands.
Comprising of two participant options, the Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon includes the challenging individual 21km half-marathon for experienced competitors, but also provides a great opportunity for the enthusiast runners with the popular relay teams of three people running 7km each.
Defending women’s champion, Catherine Cartmill of Brisbane, will be back to defend her title whilst the Men’s field will be wide open with former champion Mark McFadzen a top contender, locals Chris Osborne and Kyle Rose looming as dark horses and upcoming talent from Whitsunday Runners, Hamilton Island’s newly formed running club.
Later that morning, will be the popular Junior Fun Run providing children aged 15 years and under with a choice of three distances to compete in from 3000 metres, 1500 metres or 750 metres. Following the event, Hamilton Island will host a medal presentation ceremony on the Marina’s Front Street next to Manta Ray cafe, with a complimentary barbeque, lucky draw prizes and live entertainment.
Competitors and supporters can book accommodation rates from $370 per room per night twinshare at the Reef View Hotel, from $330 per room per night twinshare for a Palm Bungalow or at the boutique Beach Club resort from $595 per room per night twinshare with a la carte breakfast.
