Barge Booking Request

We ask all barge bookings must be made 5 business days prior to travelling. All vehicles are required to be at the terminal at the commencement of the load time.

All drivable vehicles requiring travel to Hamilton Island must have an approved Temporary Vehicle Permit (TVP). This will be included as part of the booking process. 

Timetable Information

All barge transfers on Samson to and from Hamilton Island and Shute Harbour are run Monday to Friday only. There are no scheduled runs on Saturday, Sunday or Public Holidays. Timings are subject to change, please check with Shute Harbour Terminal prior to travel. Below are timings for a standard run day. This service has a turnaround time on Hamilton Island of approximately 60 minutes.

  • Load Shute Harbour
    • Run 1 - Samson - 6.30am load
    • Run 2 - Samson - 10.30am load
  • Load Hamilton Island
    • Run 1 - Samson - 9.00am load
    • Run 2 - Samson - 1.00pm load

Pricing stated below is for travel on Samson. Travel on other vessels may attract higher rates.

Prices cover Shute Harbour to Hamilton Island and return on the same barge run. Vehicles booked to return on a separate run, will be charged a further standard rate.

If you do not have approved credit with Hamilton Island you must pay in advance. This can be done by credit card or EFTPOS. HIE will contact you to obtain pre-payment.

Cancellations or amendments received outside of 48 hours of the Load Time will be subject to space availability.
Cancellations or amendments received inside of 48 hours of the Load Time will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee of the total booking value.
No Shows are subject to a cancellation fee equal to 100% of the total booking value.
