Bookings
Barge booking requests are subject to space availability. The Shute Harbour Terminal Coordinator (SHTC) will confirm if a requested date/time has been accepted. An authorised application must be received by the SHTC 5 business days prior to transport. Information on the application must match the items being transported; any inconsistency may result in removal of the items from the Island at the owner’s expense.
Times
Barge transfers to/from the Island and Shute Harbour are scheduled Monday to Friday, excluding Public Holidays. Transfers are subject to change; please confirm bookings with Shute Harbour terminal the day prior to travel. Scheduled times of departure and arrival are not guaranteed. HIE may change the route, the time and/or place of departure and/or arrival, without notice, and shall not be liable to the passenger or consignor for any inconvenience, expense, loss, damage or the failure to make travel or other connections.
Pricing
Prices will be determined based on the size of the load along the longest side. HIE may charge freight by weight, measurement, or value, and may at any time re-weigh, re-value or re-measure or require the cargo to be re-weighed, re-valued or re-measured and charge a proportionately additional rate.
Temporary Vehicle Permit (TVP)
A TVP Sticker will be issued subject to approval by HIE. A Vehicle requiring temporary access to the Island may not be transported without a valid TVP Sticker.
Vehicles
The Vehicle Owner agrees to indemnify HIE against any claims, of any type whatsoever, should there be any change to legislation or insurance requirements that affect the ownership and operation of the Vehicle as approved in the application. It is the owners/approved driver’s responsibility to drive the Vehicle on and off the barge, HIE accepts no responsibility for loading or unloading of the Vehicle. Applicants, Drivers and Vehicles are subject to QLD Government Legislation and Registration. Owners and drivers will abide by the Hamilton Island Rules & Regulations. Vehicle must be parked on the job site, or in the overnight parking area designated in the Hamilton Island Code of Conduct. Vehicles must be clean, presentable and roadworthy. If any of these Terms and Conditions are not complied with, the Vehicle Owner agrees that HIE may remove the Vehicle from the Island, (without notification to the Vehicle Owner, if the owner is not contactable). The Vehicle will be removed at the Vehicle Owner’s expense. HIE takes no responsibility for the Vehicle during transport and or once it is transported to the mainland.
Important Inspection Information
Prior to boarding the barge, your vehicle will undergo the following inspections. If your vehicle fails any of the following inspection’s it will not be permitted to board the barge and travel to the island.
- HIE Vehicle Permit Tag Inspection: You will need to display your permit tag on your windscreen or dashboard for Barge Crew to inspect.
- Biosecurity Obligations Inspection (Biosecurity Act 2014): To ensure no new pests, diseases and contaminants are introduced to the island your vehicle will need to be thoroughly washed down and free from any chemicals, pesticides, soil/dirt, seeds and other plant matter.
- Visual Inspection: Your vehicle must be in a roadworthy condition, presentable and have no visual damage or offensive sign writing.
All information and details on this lodgement must match the vehicle being transferred; any inconsistencies found may result in the vehicles removal from island at the owner’s expense.
Payment
Payment in advance of transportation is required for all parties without an approved HIE credit account. Parties may apply for credit; approval will be granted subject to HIE’s credit policy. EFTPOS and Credit Card are the only accepted payment methods for all parties without an approved HIE credit account. For those parties with an approved HIE credit account, a tax invoice will be supplied on a regular basis. Invoices raised to a Registered Business are to be in accordance with the relevant registered business agreement. Internal charges will be processed for items coded to a project and authorised by a project manager.
Cancellation
- Cancellations or amendments received outside of 48 hours of the Load Time will be subject to space availability.
- Cancellations or amendments received inside of 48 hours of the Load Time will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee of the total booking value.
- No Shows are subject to a cancellation fee equal to 100% of the total booking value.
Dangerous Goods
The Passenger and consignor of baggage and/or cargo warrants that the baggage and/or cargo contain no explosive, volatile spirits or other goods of a dangerous or flammable nature or any offensive item likely to endanger the vessel operated by HIE or the passengers, baggage or cargo thereon or therein. The passenger shall not take onto or into the vessel or include in their baggage or cargo, without express notice being given to HIE, any explosives, volatile spirits, corrosives matches other than safety matches, any easily ignitable article, any offensive item likely to cause inconvenience to passengers, or anything whatsoever likely to endanger the vessel or the passengers, baggage or cargo thereon or therein.
Passenger Compliance
The passenger shall comply with the instructions of HIE’s staff concerning all matters relating to this contract of carriage, and shall be responsible for any loss or damage occasioned by non-observance of any instructions, conditions or notice. Smoking is not prohibited anywhere on the vessel.
Animals
No animals are to be transported to island without prior written consent of HIE.
No Liability
In circumstances beyond the control of HIE as a result of which HIE cannot commence or complete this contract for carriage, HIE shall have no liability whatever to the passenger/consignor other than a refund of any fare or charges prepaid by the passenger, less the value of any distance over which this contract or carriage has been partly preformed by HIE.
Passengers Baggage and Cargo At Own Risk
The passenger, their baggage and/or other goods are carried entirely at their own risk and HIE accepts no responsibility for damage, including death, bodily injury or loss of any nature arising out of or incidental to the said carriage, or any service ancillary thereto (including transport of the passenger, their baggage and/or goods to and from the terminal, and including any substituted method of carriage adopted by HIE).The passenger for themselves and their executors, administrators and dependents expressly renounces all claims against HIE in respect thereof whether or not due or alleged to be due to negligence or misconduct on the part of HIE or its staff.
HIE accepts no responsibility for any damage including injury, delay, or loss of any nature, arising out of or incidental to the carriage of cargo and baggage or any service ancillary thereto (including transport to and from or storage at any cargo terminal, aerodrome, or taking off or landing places), whether or not due or alleged to be due to misconduct or negligence on the part of HIE or its staff.
Carriers Lien
If on demand any passenger or consignor or other person fails to pay charges due and owing to HIE in respect of any service by HIE, HIE may detain and sell all or any of the baggage, and/or other goods and/or cargo of the passenger, consignor or other person which are in HIE’s possession, and out of the monies arising from the sale, retain the charges so payable and all charges and expenses of the retention and sale, and shall render the surplus if any of the monies arising by the sale and such of the baggage, goods and/or cargo as remain unsold to the passenger, consignor or other person entitled to that surplus.
Emergency Transport
Emergency Transport will be subject to approval by the General Manager Logistics & Procurement on a case by case basis.
Queensland Law Applicable
These conditions shall be governed and construed by the law of the State of Queensland wheresoever’s the contract is made. No proceedings in respect of any matter or thing arising out of this contract shall be instituted or carried on against HIE except in the Courts of the State of Queensland.
