Adventure seekers guide to Hamilton Island Posted by Emma and Cam Barr - 7 July 2016 As soon as we arrived… We immediately relaxed into holiday mode. We found the staff at the airport so welcoming and the transition from the airport to the hotel seamless. Within no time at all we were unwinding by the pool. The location of the Reef View Hotel is fantastic… The hotel was a fantastic base for our adventures on Hamilton Island. Its proximity to the beach, pools, restaurants and amenities of the nearby marina made everything so easy. We decided not to hire a golf buggy as we like walking and the distances between places were small. For the occasional times we didn't want to walk the complimentary island bus shuttle was always close by for us to jump on. Emma takes in the view from the hotel room. A highlight of the trip was the Great Barrier Reef… We’re lucky enough to be able to say we’ve dived the inner and outer Great Barrier Reef in the past. Nevertheless, we couldn’t wait to get out there again. It’s a place where you could never say, "I've seen it all". The reef always offers something new and exciting, whether it’s your first dive or your hundredth. For divers like us it really offers an amazing experience . Dive time at the Great Barrier Reef.. We loved the variety of what we saw… We saw creatures large and small. Some highlights were getting to see schools of colourful fish, coral of all sizes, reef sharks, mackerel and tuna. The Explore tour took us to a couple of different dive sites, which meant everyone from beginners through to experienced divers were able to get involved. It also made it more of an adventure for us to discover different locations. The whole day was amazing. We had perfect weather, crystal clear waters, the chance to see beautiful marine life and a friendly crew. We were greeted by turtles and amazing jewel toned fish on our dive. The tour was seamless and the time flew by... The dive boat was really comfortable. It is fully equipped with a dive platform on the lower deck and a sun deck and lounge area on the top deck. We were provided a delicious lunch and eating with the ocean as our backdrop was a fantastic experience. We were treated to such a range of fish and coral on our dive. While on holiday we sailed to Whitehaven Beach… We went out on Explore's 65ft catamaran and it was another spectacular day. It is a truly beautiful sight as you come around the headland of Whitsunday Island to see the 7km stretch of pure white silica sand, lined with crystal clear water. The sand and water are just so immaculate. We couldn’t wait to jump in and go for a swim. The day ended with some snorkelling at nearby Chalkie’s Beach, which was very impressive and a great alternative if you can’t get to the Great Barrier Reef. The crystal clear water and pure white sands of Whitehaven beach. Back on island we got active… We are always very active on our holidays. We love to explore the locality and get involved in what is on offer. For Hamilton Island this meant watersports. In particular, we enjoyed the stand-up paddleboards and loved having a sail on the catamarans. On land we did a hike to the top of Passage Peak. Up there we really enjoyed the impressive views of the Whitsundays and how peaceful the walking trails were. Morning yoga at Passage Peak after our hike.. For our evening entertainment we loved… Watching the sunset at One Tree Hill. We timed our arrival so we could get a good spot, enjoy a drink and relax as the sun dipped behind the horizon. The perfect way to appreciate those stunning Whitsundays views. Sunset begins at One Tree Hill. Then we would head to dinner… The standouts for us were TAKO and Manta Ray. At TAKO the food is irresistible Mexican cuisine with subtle Asian influences. Our pick was the Mayan style chicken quesadillas or prawn and chorizo tacos. As for Manta Ray, we couldn't go past the prawn pizza. When it was time to go home… We were sad to leave and both agreed it was an unforgettable holiday. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the activities were amazing and it was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
