Your arrival

Preparing for your arrival

Your arrival day to Hamilton Island will be either a Monday or Tuesday. Any changes to your arrival date must be communicated with your Recruitment Specialist immediately.

Whilst a number of household items can be purchased when you arrive on the island, you will require some essentials to see you through the first few days before you can get access to the mainland to do some shopping. We have attached a checklist for you to ensure you have packed everything you will require on your arrival to Hamilton Island.

You can also purchase items online and have them delivered to the Island (click here for Outlet PO Box addresses if you wish to send items prior to your arrival) or you can visit the Hamilton Island Buy, Swap and Sell page on Facebook.

Shute Harbour car parking

Staff Car parking facilities are available in limited numbers. Payment is deducted from your pay on a weekly basis. Email shutecarpark@hamiltonisland.com.au to see if there is space available before arrival. If space is available, you will be emailed a form which you need to fill in and return prior to your arriving at the Shute Harbour Car Park with your vehicle.

Your vehicle needs to be under 2.1m in height otherwise you will not fit. You will be allocated a roof top space at first from there based on longevity you will be allocated an undercover space as they become available.

You are not confirmed a space until you have received a confirmation email and allocated space. Until such time - the location of your vehicle is your responsibility.

What happens when I arrive?

A member of our Onboarding team will welcome you to the island from the ferry terminal or airport. They will give you a briefing that will help you through your first few days.

The Onboarding Coordinator will:

  • Meet you on arrival and help collect your luggage – please look for a welcome sign
  • Drive you to the uniform room where you will be issued with a full uniform
  • Take a photo of you for your Staff Identification Card
  • Provide you with a full “training schedule” for your first week
  • Provide a basic tour to help you become familiar with the resort and the facilities offered at Hamilton Island, including the Staff Accommodation Office, Rainforest CafĂ©, IGA, Cruise Whitsundays ferry service and some Island hot spots
  • Take you to your staff accommodation and show you around the facility
  • Note: Should you need assistance with bank account, online training, tax file number, R.S.A or superannuation, our onboarding coordinator can assist.

This process usually takes anywhere from an hour to two hours depending on the size of the arrival group. Please make sure to ask plenty of questions.

What happens during my first few days?

Once our Onboarding team has settled you in to your accommodation we encourage you to explore the island.

On Wednesday all new employees will participate in our Induction program, which gives you an overview of the company structure and policies. You need to arrive at the venue at 7.50am, in full uniform. Lunch will be provided but please bring a drink bottle.

On Thursday you will participate in some essential training, before your Department Manager will introduce you to your workplace and colleagues, and provide you with your roster. Depending on your position, you may also participate in further training programs prior to entering your workplace. These details will be provided to you upon your arrival.
