If I have my family visit can they stay with me?

Staff are allowed to have visitors in their staff accommodation for a maximum of three days if there is sufficient space, but this needs to be approved by Island Security and the Staff Accommodation office. Please see your manager for details.

The water out of my tap tastes funny. Is it safe to drink?

Please note that our water on Hamilton Island is ‘desalinated’; it is put through a process called ‘reverse osmosis’ and is treated rain and ocean water. It is 100% safe to drink.

Who do I call if something breaks in my room (shower head, fridge, washing machine etc)? 

Contact maintenance on ext. 89390 during business and after hours. 

Do I get to drive a buggy? 

Buggies are issued to staff for work related purposes, you will only be allocated one if you are a senior manager or you own a holiday property. 

Hamilton Island vehicles can only be driven by those who hold a valid current drivers licence, and QLD road rules apply at all times. 

After 3 months of employment you are legally required to hold a QLD drivers licence and will require a proof of residency letter from the Staff Accommodation office. 

Who do I contact for any disruptive behaviour/noise control in my staff accommodation?

Keep in mind that these services are for extreme disturbances only. (Complaints are confidential). 

How do I get around on the island? 

There is a free Island Shuttle service on the island available for guests and staff. Please utilise this service to orientate you with the island.

If my shift starts at 8.00am what time should I arrive? 

You should arrive at your workplace ready to start work at your scheduled shift time. 

I have arrived and have no blankets/pillow/bedding? 

Please notify your Onboarding Coordinator on arrival and they can help find alternative solutions for you. 

I love working on Hamilton Island, can I post comments like this on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr or any other social media platform? 

It is important that you read through the ‘Hamilton Island Code of Conduct’ guidelines for social media and how they could affect you. 

Can I swim in the “Main Pool” or “Bougainvillea Pool”? 

Staff are only allowed in staff designated areas and pools. 
Pools within the Resort Zone can only be used in special circumstances where employees may be granted an on premise pass. 
All staff can swim at the staff pool, the east end of Catseye Beach, Coral Cove and Escape Beach. Failure to comply will result in infringements. 

I don’t have my licence, can I drive a buggy? 

No. Hamilton Island is governed by Queensland State Law, a buggy is classed as a motor vehicle and as such staff are not permitted to drive them at any point without the appropriate licence. 

I have seen some strange behaviour from my management, but I don’t want to report it for fear of losing my job. What should I do? 

If you have any workplace concerns please approach the Employee Relations team to express your concerns and find an appropriate way forward. 

HELP, I’m dying to update my Facebook status but I don’t have the internet. 

Hamilton Island provides free staff internet at the Rainforest CafĂ© and in all accomodation blocks.

Can I apply for a second job with HIE?

Yes, you can, as long as the second job is different to your primary job, examples of a second job can be working in Food & Beverage or Housekeeping, you can even work in Childcare or in our retail settings such as the IGA, Palm Valley Activities or Buggy hire. We’ll make sure you receive all the training to be successful while you benefit from upskilling and an additional income.

Who can apply?

You must be employed by HIE for at least 4 weeks before you can apply for a second job with HIE.

How do I apply?

You can access the second job application on HISpace by reaching out to your manager. Once you have completed your second job application please visit our Workforce team or email the completed form to workforcecoord@hamiltonisland.com.au. We will then contact you and your manager to let you know if your second application has been approved.
