Staff Accommodation conducts annual pest control treatments. Due to our tropical environment and close living conditions, pest control is the responsibility of all residents. Please ensure food items are appropriately stored and rooms are cleaned regularly.

Please notify Staff Accommodation if you notice an increase in pest infestations and we will arrange for your unit to be treated.

DO NOT FEED THE WILDLIFE. Wildlife are unable to process our food causing illness and death, and encouraging them into group kitchen facilities is unhygienic .

Garbage and Recycling

HIE recycles cardboard, paper, glass, milk containers, plastic, steel and aluminium cans. Separate yellow bins are provided in the garbage enclosure for recycled material. All other waste should be placed in the red general waste bins.

Garbage is collected two to three times per week from the bin enclosures. General waste is transported to the Kelsey Creek landfill site near Proserpine. Bins are stored in bin enclosures, generally near the entry and exit points to the buildings. Please familiarise yourself with the location of the bins and place your rubbish in the relevant bins.

Rubbish must not be left in hallways and common areas. Littering charges may apply.

Please ensure bins are not overloaded and lids are closed to prevent wildlife and vermin from accessing the rubbish. Please keep the bin enclosure doors closed to prevent wildlife from entering (where applicable).

The Salvation Army provides bins on the island for the recycling of clothing and linen. Please place your items in the bins provided as anything left outside the bin will be collected as rubbish. Electrical items, crockery and glassware should not be placed in the Salvation Army bins. Salvation Army bins are located at Lake Views, Passage Views, East Views, Harbour Views, Palm Views and Azure Lodge outside the staff gym.
