Weekends of Wonderment is a new event series at qualia designed to appeal to those with a love affair for all things luxurious and artisanal, who travel for the senses and are seeking a unique, hands-on experience in the region.
Limited to no more than 21 guests, the series is set to become Australia’s most intimate and unique weekend getaway – a weekend not to be missed for passionate travellers who want to tap into their senses and experience the Whitsundays region in a unique way.
Join us in May for the second event in the series and you’ll begin the weekend with an intimate candle making class with Elise Pioch Balzac, founder of high-end Australian soy wax candle brand Maison Balzac. The session will allow guests to select their own unique scent and pour soy wax candles into a personal heirloom or jar of choice.
You’ll then have the opportunity to take part in a hands-on crabbing experience with renowned chef, Andrew McConnell, of Cumulus Inc. and Supernormal (awarded best new restaurant by The Age Good Food Guide) and expert crabber and marine biologist, Matt Vickers. Guests will pull their own mud crabs from sustainable fishery crab pots found off the shores of qualia.
The love for all things artisanal continues with an intimate floral masterclass with Dr Lisa Cooper, where she will take you through her intriguing career, floral inspirations and her new book, before you can make your own floral creations under her expert tutelage. Lisa Cooper’s work has graced the pages of Vogue, Vogue Living, Harper’s Bazaar, Manuscript, and Marie Claire, while her signature floral works are commissioned by some of Sydney’s biggest names in the business and arts world. She is also an accomplished artist and acclaimed jeweller.
The weekend will culminate in an elegant ‘Weekends of Wonderment’ dinner at qualia’s renowned Pebble Beach as prepared by guest chef, Andrew McConnell. Having worked abroad in Europe and Asia, Andrew McConnell has ultimately made a name for himself in Melbourne where he currently resides as Executive Chef and Owner of five Melbourne restaurants: Cumulus Inc., Cutler & Co., The Builders Arms Hotel and its dining room Moon Under Water, Supernormal and Luxembourg. His passion for exceptional, often unusual seasonal produce has earned him the respect of the dining public and his peers, having thrice been honoured Chef of the Year by The Age Good Food Guide.
