Airports and flights to Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island Airport is the main air hub for the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef.

This modern, fully-equipped airport handles direct flights daily from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns, operated by Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Qantas. View our flight connection map here.

Private flights and charters also fly into Hamilton Island Airport, along with locally operated helicopters, light planes and seaplanes.

Also known as the Great Barrier Reef Airport, the airport is the launch pad for scenic flights to the reef and magnificent Whitehaven Beach. Hamilton Island Airport is south of the marina, just a convenient five minute trip to the resort accommodation. 

Airport Baggage Claim
Please be aware the airport baggage claim area is currently undergoing necessary refurbishment to improve the collection facility, including the introduction of mechanical carousels and replacing the roof structure. These works are due to be completed by mid-March 2018. In the interim, guests arriving to the airport may experience some congestion. Please follow the instructions of Hamilton Island staff to ensure the quickest transition from the airport to your accommodation. Find out more

Drone flying on Hamilton Island

Due to safety concerns and the close proximity of our aerodrome to our resort and island infrastructure, recreational / sport use is not permitted on Hamilton Island, Dent Island and waters surrounding Hamilton Island, Dent Island and Henning Island. Read full drone policy.
