Sunsail Whitsundays Sailing School

Learn to sail in Queensland's tropical Whitsundays and explore the 70 islands that make up the magical Whitsunday Islands. Hamilton Island is home to Sunsail Whitsundays Sailing School offering novice and intermediate learn to sail courses.

These fully comprehensive sailing courses are designed to cater for every level of ability and experience. Covering the basics of boat handling through to advanced sailing skills to gain internationally  recognised RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and YA (Yachting Australia) professional qualifications.

  • Sailing school runs every week of the year
  • Departs from Hamilton Island Marina
  • Students to arrive no later than Sunday 1600hrs
  • Course starts every Monday morning at 0900hrs and finishes on Friday approx 1600hrs and includes 4 night hours of sailing
  • Students have the option to stay on board Friday night and disembark by 0900 Saturday
  • Live on board in shared cabins. Max 5 students on board
  • All meals Monday morning to Friday lunch included. Soft drinks provided (water, tea and coffee) other snacks, soft drinks and alcohol is allowed and up to the student to bring with them or buy on the island
  • 18 years and above. Children under 18 can attend with an adult however the whole boat must be booked - contact us for more details
  • Both courses can operate together

Competent Crew Course

The competent crew course introduces the complete beginner to cruising and teaches personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew of a cruising yacht. No prior experience is required to complete the novice course.

Practical Day Skipper Tidal Sailing Course

The day skipper course is conducted on board a cruising yacht to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day in tidal waters with which the student is familiar. The practical day skill tidal course requires some prior experience of up to 5 days sailing, 4 night hours and 40 hours of Day Skipper theory knowledge.
