Employee Salary Review

Important Notice: Salary Review at Hamilton Island

In late 2020, Hamilton Island Enterprises (HIE) commenced a comprehensive review of its practices relating to how it remunerates employees.

This review found that some employees engaged under annual salary arrangements may not have been remunerated in accordance with the relevant Awards. In certain cases, this may have resulted in employees not being paid their full entitlements, while in other cases some employees may have been overpaid.

We believe this issue has arisen as a result of the complexities involved with interpreting the nearly 40 Awards applicable to our scope of operations.

We fully acknowledge this is not in keeping with the values we hold ourselves personally and professionally accountable to. We unreservedly apologise and I would like to assure all employees that this matter is the top priority for our business.

We have advised the Fair Work Ombudsman of this development and have appointed external advisors to independently verify the review of our employee remuneration practices. Any current or former employee who has been underpaid will receive their full entitlements as soon as possible.

HIE takes its employee obligations extremely seriously and most importantly we are working to implement new time and attendance systems to remedy this situation to ensure ongoing compliance.

Affected employees will be contacted directly by the People, Culture and Development team. In order to ensure we reach all current and former employees who may be impacted, we have set up this online portal which will allow you to share your most up to date contact details.

A list of FAQs along with regular updates can be found here.

We thank you for your patience as we work to rectify this matter as quickly as possible.

Salary Review Update - July 2022

Although the COVID pandemic has been tough for everyone on the Island, Hamilton Island Enterprises Limited (HIE) has continued to work methodically through individual reconciliations, completing 80% of the total.

Although we have a large, dedicated team, the reconciliation process is complex and time-consuming. We are committed to ensuring that it is done accurately and in line with continued guidance from our third-party, external experts. Where the process has identified people who are owed payments, they have been paid as soon as possible.

The Office of the Fair Work Ombudsman has also been kept up to date with the reconciliation process to ensure it is meeting their expectations.

In addition to processing 80% of the reconciliations, HIE has also transitioned all employees who were previously on the Hamilton Island Enterprises Limited Employee Collective Agreement, to the relevant Modern Award. We have also deployed a new time and attendance system which will help avoid any future potential underpaymentissues.

Hamilton Island and our new CEO, Pete Brulisauer are committed to ensuring the reconciliation is done properly, people are paid what they are owed, and our processes are improved.

Once again, we give our firm commitment that we will ensure everyone’s owed payments are paid as soon as the process allows.
