Electrical Network & Supply

Hamilton Island Enterprises Limited (HIE) has invested over $15M to install a 22km-long, 10MW power cable to supply power to Hamilton Island, as well as Mount Roper, Stoney Beach and Long Island. The power cable means HIE can actually supply electricity back to Ergon Energy, the region’s electricity provider.

Hamilton Island also has a powerhouse which houses six diesel generators - producing 9MW. HIE invested $30M to upgrade the powerhouse, which ensures that the island continues to have electricity even during Ergon Energy power outages.
